Tony Strat-Cortez joined TA’s team last month as the school’s first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator. A 2009 graduate of Thetford Academy, Tony (he/they) brings a strong background in DEI and advocacy work to the role–including his own experiences at TA as a transgender and bicultural student. “Although some things have changed since my time as a student at Thetford Academy,” Tony shared, “My experience being a biracial ‘out’ queer student at TA provides an important contextual understanding of life on campus.”

As DEI coordinator, Tony will build on the work of TA’s 2021 Anti-Racism Task Force, facilitating conversations, providing education and resources, and fostering growth around a wide-range of DEI issues: “This year I look forward to engaging with students, teachers, staff, and the community in ways to foster inclusion, build equity, and help support our anti-racism efforts. We have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to build confidence in campus conversations and in daily life.”
