Soccer The Panthers had a busy week! Varsity boys suffered a 3-1 loss against Stowe on 9/22. Jack Hastings scored on a Jake Colby assist.  Nacio Levey made 13 saves. JV boys also fell to Stowe 3-0, but then beat St Johnsbury 2-0 on Monday, 9/24. Elliott Jones and Kobe Pierson each had a goal and an assist, with Ryen Wolf making 10 saves. Varsity girls brought home two wins this week. On Friday 9/21, they outscored Lakes Region 5-1. Picking a “Student of the Month” is one TA’s favorite rituals. Faculty started off this year picking a student “enlivens and brightens our community with her positive energy, friendly demeanor, and contagious enthusiasm.” Leah Ziai, Class of 2019, has impressed the faculty and staff at Thetford Academy with her willingness to lend a hand or offer a kind word to her classmates. Thetford Academy has a big birthday this year -  the school is celebrating 200 years since Asa Burton founded Thetford Academy, the first secondary school in Vermont. In honor of this milestone event, TA is hosting a series of community events aimed at bringing our community together in the spirit of TA’s core values and progressive mission. Beginning in October, TA brings a series of thought-provoking speakers to campus to share their personal stories, ideas, and research. Cross Country At the Panthers' home meet on Sept. 11, the boys team won handily with a score of 28. Owen Deffner placed 2nd, Jacob Slaughter 3rd, Eamon Deffner 4th, and Bel Spelman came in 6th. Second place went to Brattleboro with a score of 47. On Sunday, Sept. 23, Thetford Academy international students and their host families gathered at the Bugg residence to meet, mingle, and catch up over BBQ and lawn games. Now in year 8, TA's International Student Program enrolls up to 10 students annually from around the globe.
