Vermont based honky-tonk outsiders Western Terrestrials, fronted by TA alum Nick Charyk ‘04, blend their love for the weird with the twang of classic country, creating a sound that’s honest, irreverent, and upfront about what they believe in. It’s aliens and Nudie suits, cosmic conspiracies and country shuffles, rough edges and broken hearts. Most of all, it’s a firm sense that when you look at things from outer space, we’ve all got more in common than some of us humans care to admit.

TA is traveling to Paris, Provence and Barcelona over April vacation in 2025. Students who have taken at least 2 years of French or Spanish, or who are currently enrolled in a language course, are eligible. To find out more, there is a parent/guardian information sessions on Sept. 5. The meeting is intended for folks who didn’t attend of the sessions held last spring.

The mission of the P4P reads:
“To empower sustainable economic development by recycling bicycles and sewing machines from the US and shipping them to motivated people in the developing world.”

At TA on September 20 will be the first ever collection in the Upper Valley of bicycles and sewing machines supporting the 25 year effort by Vermonters Paul Demers and his wife JoAnne Heidkamp who have coordinated Pedals for Peace, (P4P), in Vermont, a non profit, which annually collects used bicycles and sewing machines in Vermont and gets them to NJ where they are prepared for shipping overseas to direct connections in third world countries where the bikes and sewing machines are immediately put to constructive use in countries such as Albania, Guatemela, Belize and Togo. As a Thetford citizen I am working with Paul and Joanne to make this collection happen. Our goal is to collect and load 70 serviceable bikes and 5-10 serviceable sewing machine that afternoon. I will reach out through list serves and local contacts to get donations which will be “signed in” and dropped off and loading up that afternoon. We hope to have 2-4 TA student volunteers as “Greeters and Traffic Flow Assistors” on September 20. The website http://www.p4p.org will give more background and connected efforts.

College Information Night for Seniors (Virtual)

Who:  Seniors thinking about college or planning to apply to college this fall and their parents/guardians

This event will provide an overview of the College Application process and offer resources and tips to help you along the way.

Senior College Night will provide information about the following:

• How to navigate the process 
• Learning the basics of applying to colleges and for financial aid 
• Identifying scholarship opportunities

Here are some of the topics we will cover:

• An overview of the application process
• Responsibilities of the student/parent/counselor
• How schools evaluate applications
• Different types of deadlines
• Standardized tests this year
• Financial Aid Basics
• Types of Scholarships
• GAP years and deferring enrollment

At the end, we’ll have plenty of time for Q&A.  Come with all your questions, and we’ll work together to clarify the process as much as possible.

Hosted by the Class of 2025 – all students welcome, grades 7 through 12.
