Health Office Update: October 10, 2024

Health Update October 10th, 2024

All  students who were signed up for the Flu Clinic today received their flu shots.

• A special thank you to Dr. Yukica and all the staff at Upper Valley Pediatrics. 

• If you missed the clinic and would still like your student to receive a flu shot they can still get an appointment for a flu shot at Upper Valley Pediatrics.

Illnesses

PNEUMONIA

• Pneumonia is still circulating – if your student has a cough and a fever please call their pediatrician.

HEAD COLD

• There is a head cold going around with a lot of congestion & a cough. Rest & fluids help.

COVID

• TA had  2 more cases of Covid this week.

• Students can return after 24 hours if they are fever free & feeling better.

• Test kits are available in the Health Office

• Test kits are also available through the US Postal service link to Covid test kit order form

HAND-FOOT-MOUTH DISEASE

• TA had 2 more cases of Hand, Foot & Mouth disease this week, students may return to school when their fever is gone & they are feeling better. Most adults and teens are immune to this illness.

Illness prevention tips: Early bed, 3 meals/day, staying hydrated, hand washing, cover sneezes & coughs.

HUNTERS:

Please check for deer ticks 

• Shower & wash clothes if you are out in tick territory.

• If a deer tick is attached to you for more than 24-36 hours, call your pediatrician & get a one-time antibiotic to prevent Lyme Disease.

• Also, save the tick – show your doctor or Nurse Ellen

Smiling Mind is a helpful, free app for stress/anxiety/sleep issues Smiling Mind.

Thetford Town Service Officer – for Thetford Residents Only

• A resource for all seasons: the town service officer can help with gas cards, fuel oil, etc. The town service officer can connect families with other supports.

Thetford Food Shelf

• The food shelf is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to noon. The food shelf serves residents of Thetford, Fairlee, West Fairlee, Vershire and Strafford.

Corinth, West Topsham & Bradford Food Shelves

-West Topsham’s food shelf is at the Riverside Grange & open Fridays 5:30 -630 PM

-Bradford Academy’s food shelf, in Bradford, is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3-4 p.m.; Wednesday, 5-6 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m.-noon
