Head of School Weekly Email: Care, Commitment, Community
October 03, 2025
Dear TA Families,
Here are a few of the many ways that the values of care, commitment, and community were on display this week at Thetford Academy …
‘Getting to Y’ Leads the Way
The Getting to Y team has wasted no time in engaging the school community this fall in activities around teen well-being and mental health. The group of peer leaders, with the guidance of Student Assistance Provider Kara Toms, are bringing attention to national sudicide awareness month through presentations at assembly and follow-up activities during lunch. The students are sharing their care – and modeling for others how to do the same. We appreciate the Getting to Y group’s commitment to our community as they lean into tough subjects and provide tools and language to help their peers talk about them.
Seniors Gather for Sunrise
Senior class president Grace Brown was busy flipping pancakes and grilling bacon for her classmates in the pre-dawn light this morning, as the seniors arrived on campus. After a filling breakfast, students made their way to the school’s front lawn to watch the sunrise together, wrapped in blankets to ward off the chill. It was a beautiful morning for this student-led event – a fun way to build community as a class and perhaps a new TA tradition. Thanks to the senior officers, and especially Grace, for their care and commitment to make it happen (bacon and all)!
Community Preps for Woods Trail Event
Tomorrow Thetford Academy will host the 34th annual Woods Trail Run, our renowned cross country invitational with approximately 2000 runners entered to compete this year. There has been a bustle of activity today to get ready, with a variety of students and classes involved. Tomorrow will see volunteers of all ages coming together from throughout our community to make the event the success that it always is. If you’ve never been before, show up and check it out. Buy the iconic Woods Trail t-shirt to help support the event and TA’s trail course. Stop at the concession stand run by the TA Alumni Association and purchase some yummy food. Cheer on our runners and runners from throughout the Upper Valley and New England. It will be a beautiful day! Opening ceremony starts at 10am; link to the schedule of events.
One of the many things that make TA a special place is the deep sense of community, and I appreciate all of the care and commitment this requires.
Thank you!
Carrie Brennan, Head of School
