Thursday, April 4 — Abenaki: The First Travelers
Lynn Murphy, Abenaki elder, educator, and basket-maker, examines the ancient history and enduring presence of First Nations people. She traces their journey from a pre-contact subsistence lifestyle, emigration to Canada, assimilation with the White population in New England, into present day.
Thursday, April 11 — Seeking Freedom on the Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad and its network of volunteers assisted enslaved persons in their quest northward, to freedom. Author Michelle Arnosky Sherburne explores Vermont’s participation and Upper Valley (and Thetford) connections.
Thursday, April 25 — Vermonters, Coming and Going
Dr. Jill Mudgett joins us to explore Vermont’s long history of migration — from 18th century settlers moving north to newly chartered towns, to Vermonters heading west for better farmland or south for better jobs. Where are Vermonters today — both young and old — coming from, or going to?
