Letter to Seniors: Becky DiFrancesco

Dear members of the Thetford Academy Class of 2020~
A class to remember- a time to remember.
So many times over the last eight weeks I’ve thought of all of you. I’ve imagined how you all are feeling, what your thoughts are, and honestly, if I could hug each and everyone of you, I would!
The word ‘heroes’ comes to mind for me when I think of all of you. I could not be any more proud than I am of you right now! Your world changed in a matter of days! Everyday, since March 16,2020, you were faced with the unknown and the unexpected. You were faced with striving to accept what you have control of and realizing the challenge of accepting what you don’t have control of. This is courage! This is being a hero!
Yes, each and everyone of you are courageous and are heroes. You miss your friends and what you anticipated would be the way the end of your senior year would be like. These last two months were not even imagined before March 16. And, now, look what you’ve done! You had the finish line in sight, and I imagine that you experienced instead what the unexpected is in your Thetford Academy community, and what the unexpected is on a global level. I am in awe of you! You truly are a part of history!
And, although you may wish you could turn the clock back, or ask for a do-over, it is possible that you can instead say, “I don’t know right now what I’ve learned from this terribly hard-at-times experience.” And perhaps, at some time in the future, you’ll say, “I know I’ll want to learn something from this experience, since March 16, that contributes to who I already was and who I want to be.”
May you know you are a credit to yourself, the TA community, and to ‘all of yours.’ May you have a sense of peace and ease in knowing that you and each and every member of your class matters. You always have mattered- even way before March 16!
I thank each of you for who you are, for your courage, and tenacity. I applaud you for taking on your challenges, your learning and growth, your joys and sorrows, your hopes and dreams, your desire to be connected in ways that feel right for you. And, for goodness sake– know that you can always ask for help–another sign of courage!
Congratulations to you all~ our courageous and heroic class of 2020!
