Health Office Update: Jan. 6

This update from the Thetford Academy Health Office was also sent to all TA families by email.

Updates to Thetford Academy Covid Guidelines

When a student is diagnosed with Covid (day of positive test is day 0)

Days 1- 5 with no symptoms, or with mild symptoms that resolve within 4 days:

  • student must stay home
  • students can complete a rapid antigen test on day 4 and day 5 OR
  • students can complete a Covid PCR/LAMP test on day 5
  • students must send a copy of the test result/photo of the rapid test result to the Health Office

Day 6-10 with negative test result:

  • students may return to school with a well-fitting mask (available in Health Office)
  • students should wear a well-fitting mask everywhere until day 10

Symptoms at Day 5 or a positive test during isolation:

  • students must stay home until day 10
  • With Covid, parents must call a doctor immediately if the student has any trouble breathing

When a student is exposed to Covid (day of exposure = day 0):

Days 1-5 vaccinated students:

  • students may come to school
  • students must wear a well-fitting mask
  • Covid test recommended on day 5

Days 1-5 unvaccinated students (if vaccinated more than 6 months ago, students are considered NOT vaccinated at this time, this may change)

  • students must stay home
  • students can complete a rapid antigen test on day 4 and day 5 OR
  • students can complete a Covid PCR/LAMP test on day 5
  • students should send a copy of the test result/photo of the rapid test result to the Health Office

Days 6-10 unvaccinated students with negative test result

  • students may come to school
  • students should wear a well-fitting mask everywhere

Sports after Covid

After a Covid diagnosis:

  • students must get sports clearance from your doctor to resume sports or physical education classes
  • students must send clearance form to the Health Office

Booster vaccinations

Booster vaccinations are now CDC approved for children aged 12 and older (if your student’s second vaccination was more than 5 months ago):

  • The Vermont Department of Health will host a walk-in clinic at the Thetford Elementary school from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday Jan. 8th. Parents should bring your student’s vaccination card with them to this clinic.
    • both Pfizer and Moderna are available for adults
    • teens and adults can also receive their FIRST Covid vaccination at this clinic
  • Immunocompromised children can get a third Pfizer dose after 28 days – talk to your doctor.

Testing at TA

Students and parents can participate in weekly Tuesday PCR tests at Thetford Academy.

  • Click here to consent to weekly PCR testing for your student.
  • Parents should contact the Health Office in advance of Tuesday testing if they would like to have themselves tested.

Flu shots are very important this year

Students can get their flu shot at the following locations and do not need to be a patient of either practice.

Red Cross Babysitting Course

The Red Cross is offering a babysitting course at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center February 5th and 6th, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, call 802-296-2850 or email Ashley at [email protected].
