The following update from TA School Nurse Ellen Gnaedinger was sent to families via email on March 11.
Covid Protocol Reminders:
• Masking will be optional as of March 14th
This is a positive step forward; however, as we go to mask optional, TA may see more upper respiratory infections and influenza cases. TA community members are welcome to continue to wear masks if they chose. Please remind students that they will continue to see students or staff with masks. We have immunocompromised staff and students and some in our community who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
• Sports Screenings Post Covid
A friendly reminder students need a Covid sports clearance if they had Covid. More details on these guidelines are available in the health office section of the TA website.
• Vermont Department of Health to Change Guidance
On 3/14/22 new guidelines will be put in place for management of Covid; TA will send an update and revise guidance on our website next week to reflect these changes..
Current Illnesses on Campus:
TA is seeing a few scattered cases of a stomach bug and some cases of influenza. If your child has sore throat, headache, cough, fever, vomiting, diarrhea they need to stay home. Students with upper respiratory symptoms still need to do a home rapid Covid test. Take home kits are available in the Health Office.
Ronald McDonald Dental Van:
This service will be back at TA the third week in April. Please let Nurse Ellen know if you want to sign your child up for teeth cleanings. For students who are already registered, parents don’t need to do anything further; previously registered students will be seen automatically.
Health Screenings:
Vision and Hearing screenings are ongoing for 7th, 9th and 12th graders. Parents will receive an email if there are abnormal results. Please contact Nurse Ellen with any questions.
War in the Ukraine:
As we continue to watch the tragedy unfold in the Ukraine, these are three ways to help: there is a UNICEF coin collection box outside the Health Office; and donations can be made to the International Committee for the Red Cross (https://www.icrc.org/en) and Doctors Without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org). Both of these organizations are providing emergency water, food and medical aid in the Ukraine.
