Banner Day @ New England Indoor Track Championships!
March 04, 2025

The 14 athletes representing Thetford Academy at New Englands last Saturday had an exciting and inspiring day at the Reggie Lewis Track in Boston, surrounded by the best runners, jumpers and throwers in our six-state region. They also performed incredibly well, setting new school and state records. The meet was a fitting finale for an outstanding season that earned the boys’ team #1 in the state of Vermont.
New school records were set in the following 7 events:
- 4×200 relay – boys – athletes included: Evan Rich, Luke Miller, Emmett Terry, and Uly Junker
- 4×400 relay – boys – athletes included: Emmett Terry, Daniel Mann, Brady Sloop, and Luke Miller
- 300 meter dash – boys – Uly Junker
- Long jump – boys – Uly Junker
- 600 meter run – boys – Luke Miller
- 1000 meter run – boys – Brady Sloop (earning 8th place)
- 1-mile run – girls – Ava Hayden
And the first four performances listed above (in bold) were all new Vermont State Division II records!
Two more athletes made it onto the school record board: David Stagner (exchange student from Germany this year) landed second on the school record board in the shot put and Evan Rich also landed second on the school record board for long jump.
Congratulations to all of the indoor track athletes who competed in Boston and to head coach Charlie Buttrey and the coaching team.
Coach Charlie Buttrey reflects on the Winter 2025 season: “While this was a historic season for the indoor track team in terms of school records and a state championship, I will remember it most for the team’s spirit of kindness and support. Championship banners and medals are great, but this team’s most lasting legacy will be in how they treated one another.”
Thank you, Matt Hayden (P ’25, ’28), for all of the great track photos! https://vtinmotion.smugmug.com/TA-Indoor-Track-2025/TA-at-New-Englands-2025
