Virtual Tour

1. Barrett Outdoor Campus

Timber Frame Outdoor Classroom: Designed and built by students in Thetford Academy’s Timber Framing course, this outdoor classroom is used year-round by classes across TA’s curriculum. With its spectacular views, this classroom provides both a “change of scenery” and exciting opportunities for flexible outdoor learning.

Sugar Shack: Thetford Academy students in TA’s Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education Course built this traditional Vermont sugar house in 2018. Every year, students learn the art and science of sugaring from tapping trees to boiling sap, to making sugar on snow to share with their classmates.

Low Ropes Course: This twelve-feature low ropes course was designed by High 5 Adventure Learning Center and installed by TA students in 2019. This accessible and flexible course is a great resource for team-building and leadership development on campus.

2. White Building

TA’s White Building is the oldest structure on campus, opened in 1949 after the Academy’s original classroom building was lost to fire in 1942. Renovated in 1996, the White Building houses TA’s Main Office, Counseling Office, humanities and math classrooms, and the school library.

Library: Thetford Academy’s library is the hub of the school. Its appealing, light-filled space with breathtaking views is home to more than 8,500 books, along with a host of digital resources, subscription databases, ebooks, and digital authoring tools.

3. Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium

The Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium is a state-of-the-art athletics facility that seats over 400 spectators and is home base for the Panthers, TA’s championship-winning athletics teams. The gymnasium is also used for TA’s weekly all-school assemblies and other community events throughout the school year.

4. Arts and Science Building – Arts Wing

One half of Thetford Academy’s Arts and Science building, the arts wing is home to TA’s Unified Arts program. With a spacious and well-equipped art studio, a modern design technology shop, a culinary arts teaching kitchen, and a sound-proof instrumental classroom, creativity abounds in this part of campus.

5. Arts and Science Building – Science Wing

The Daniels Arts and Science Building houses all of TA’s Science classrooms, laboratories, and the school’s greenhouse. Updated in 2010, these classrooms are well-equipped for the exploration of a wide range of scientific studies–from biology to chemistry, horticulture to astronomy, physics to forestry.

6. Anderson Hall

Martha Jane Rich Theater: Named for former Head of School Martha Rich, the MJR Theater was built in 2010 as part of the Anderson Hall renovation. The beautiful 180-seat theater is bustling year-round with students’ dramatic and musical performances, speakers, and a wide range of student and community events.

Panther Cafe: The Panther Cafe is a sunny, spacious space at the center of Anderson Hall. Students gather here to meet, eat breakfast or lunch, and connect with their peers.

Hathorn Engelman Fitness Center: Added as part of Anderson Hall’s 2010 renovation and updated with new cardio equipment in 2020, the fitness center is a key resource for TA’s physical education program and athletics team training.

7. Athletic Fields

TA’s athletics fields (soccer, baseball, and softball) feature stunning views of NH’s White Mountains and timber framed dugouts designed and built by TA students.

8. Dan Grossman Woods Trail

The Daniel Grossman Woods Trail is a beautiful and challenging 5K cross country course that winds through the forests behind TA’s main campus. The trail has been recognized by runners as one of the premiere cross country running trails in New England and the best 5K course in Vermont. Every year, more than 100 schools from New England and beyond come to TA to race in the now-iconic Woods Trail Run.

9. Torrey Mountain Bike Trail

The Torrey Mountain Bike Trail, named for former TA headmaster Fred Torrey whose deep appreciation of the outdoors was well-known, is a fun, one-mile “flow trail,” that accommodates riders of all abilities. The trail was designed and built in 2019 by Pete Wakeling of OTB Trail Builders and TA students in the Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education course.
