Celebrate TOP’s New Winter Classroom: Dec. 15
December 08, 2017
The Thetford Outdoor Program (TOP) is excited to announce the opening of our new classroom space in the Thetford Hill State Forest. Students in the Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education class have constructed a platform and will raise a 20-foot yurt on Sunrise Hill, at the highest point of Thetford Hill State Park adjacent to Thetford Academy. The class would like to celebrate this new space with Thetford Academy students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and community members.
On Friday, Dec. 15, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., the class will be hosting a gathering at the yurt and everyone is welcome to come anytime during those hours. We will serve hot chocolate and some snacks, students will share about the experience putting up the yurt, and visitors can explore the space, surrounding trails, and interpretive signs—all built by TA students.
We hope you can join us!
To get to Sunrise Hill and the Yurt site in the State Forest, you can follow the upper trail that starts at the top of the upper soccer field, and follow the blue blazes past the interpretive tree signs. You can also follow the State Forest access road to the top of the park.
