Eloise Silver Van Meter to Represent TA in State Poetry Out Loud Contest

Sophomore Eloise Silver Van Meter’s recitation of “Zacuanpopalotls” by Brenda Cárdenas came in first place in TA’s Poetry Out Loud Contest on Feb. 12. The runner up was William Bosco, who presented “Analysis of Baseball” by May Swenson.

Eloise recited “Zacuanpopalotls” in front of the student body on Feb. 27 during Assembly (see above photo), dramatizing the poem with energy, pacing it deliberately, and perfectly pronouncing a number of lines in Spanish.

She will recite at the Poetry Out Loud Vermont semifinals at the Barre Opera House on March 7, along with 30 other school winners.
