Gearing Up for the New School Year

Excerpted Letter to Families from Carrie Brennan, Head of School

August has arrived, and here at TA we are busy preparing for the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

Every new school year is opportunity for a fresh start – and with those hopes, goals and dreams for a new year often come excitement and jitters. This is true for students and staff alike, whether it’s our first year as a 7th grader, our sixth year as a rising 12th grader, or our twentieth year as a long-time teacher.

Like our many new students in the 7th and 9th grades (and a few in other grades, too), this will be my first year at Thetford Academy. It is humbling to come in as a new leader to an institution that has two centuries of history, and yet inspiring to envision what’s next and to play a role in guiding TA into its third century! Some days I have a case of the jitters too.

I look forward to meeting you as the school year launches. Please join us at the annual picnic hosted by TAPA on Sunday, August 25. Look for me greeting students as they arrive on Tuesday, August 27 for the start of the new year. And definitely save the date for our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 19.

I am thrilled to be back in the Upper Valley after decades away. I am loving blueberry season and the blue skies, and wish you all an enjoyable and bountiful rest of the summer season.
