Thetford Outdoor Program Offers Fall Adventures for Students

Autumn is a great time to get outside in Vermont, and the Thetford Outdoor Program is making the most of it. TOP outings are free and open to all TA students and showcase the best of the season in the Upper Valley. With options from rock climbing in Royalton, canoeing the Connecticut River, to yurt camping in the Thetford Hill State Forest, there is something for every type of outdoor adventurer to enjoy.

To claim a spot on a TOP outing, students should reach out to Scott Ellis, TA’s Thetford Outdoor Program coordinator. Space is limited and programs may be cancelled for inclement weather. See details below.

Rock Climbing, Sept. 30th, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
TOP will travel to South Royalton to climb outside on a 50ft rock wall. Students will be top rope climbing. All climbing equipment will be provided. Open to all TA students.

Canoeing, Oct. 15th, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
TOP will travel to Kilowatt park in Hartford VT and paddle on the CT River. The group will paddle to Gilman Island to play some games and complete a little service work at the campsite. Open to all TA students.

GLOW Overnight at the Yurt, Nov. 3-4, 4 p.m. – 11 a.m.
After school on Friday the group will hike up to the yurt in the state forest. The yurt has no electricity or running water and does have a wood stove for warmth. Students should wear non-cotton clothing and bring extra warm layers, a backpack, water, a sleeping bag, pad, and personal items. Please do not bring electronics including phones. Gear can be provided upon request for students who do not have their own items. Dinner and breakfast will be provided. Open to students who identify as Girls, Ladies or Whomever.

Middle school Overnight, Dec. 15-16, 4 p.m. – 11 a.m.
