Panther Boys Clinch Quarterfinal Win, Host Winooski in Semis on Wednesday

Calling all Panthers! This Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., Thetford Academy’s varsity #6 seeded boys soccer team will host #10 Winooski in a semifinal matchup.

The Panthers quarterfinal win v. Vergennes last Friday was a thriller, with the two teams tied up 2-2 after 90 minutes of regular play – with no movement in overtime or double overtime. After a nailbiting round of penalty kicks (TA went 10 for 10), the Panthers clinched the win. Seniors Henry Trage and Owen Goodrich each scored a goal for TA, Emmett Terry had an assist, and goalie Matt McGovern ’27 covered the net with nine saves.

Coach Jonathan Bicknell shared his reaction with the Valley News, “Excited to see the team fight towards this win. Going down one goal in the first minute was gut-wrenching, but I knew the boys had the resolve to see this through. Now to prep for semis!” Wednesday’s game will be first time Thetford Academy has played a in semifinal game since 2016.

Fans are encouraged to come out to cheer on the boys as they fight for the Division III title. Wear your Panther blue and bring the noise!
