Future Planning Ramping Up for TA Juniors and Seniors

The start of second semester is a significant time of transition for Thetford Academy’s juniors and seniors. With graduation just months away, seniors are busy evaluating post-secondary options, working on financial planning, and engaging in valuable work experiences outside of school. Juniors, too, are starting to think more deeply about their post graduation options, diving into research, discussion, and planning for what’s next.

Seniors who applied to colleges and training programs early may have already received admission decisions – congratulations to our early decision applicants who have been accepted to their top choice colleges (see list of early decision and early action acceptances below). Regular decision applicants are just beginning to get word from schools or are waiting to hear in the coming months.

Some seniors attending partner career and technical centers have completed their Thetford Academy course work and have transitioned into full-time cooperative work placements at area businesses including Pike Industries, Upper Valley Honda, and VTRANS. These placements will provide valuable work experience and, in many cases, a job offer upon graduation.

For juniors, though, the process is just beginning. Second semester is the time juniors begin the intensive process of exploring college, training, and career options. They will be meeting with their school counselor about every two weeks throughout the remainder of the semester to explore potential career paths and establish a roadmap to reach their goals.

These meetings are an important place to talk through what needs to be completed in order to earn a Thetford Academy diploma, to plan activities like college visits, experiential summer learning opportunities, dual enrollment options, and volunteer experiences. Juniors are encouraged to take the lead in the process, exploring what they find meaningful, and shaping their plan along the way.

The Counseling Office hosts two college information nights for juniors and their families each year. The first virtual session took place on January 12, 2026 (view recording here). This session provided general information about the college search and application process. The second virtual session of the series is coming up next Wednesday, February 18 at 6 p.m. Meeting details and login link can be found on Thetford Academy’s calendar

This session will feature a panel of admissions representatives from a cross section of colleges, including Dartmouth College, University of Vermont, Vermont State University, Bishop’s University (in Canada), and others. These professionals will provide a deeper analysis of the benefits of different college options and share some of the intricacies of the college application and evaluation process.

For all of our juniors and seniors, Thetford Academy’s Counseling Office is here as a support and guide through the future planning process. Students are encouraged to stop by, email, or call to make an appointment with their counselor. Keep an eye on the school calendar for upcoming college and career planning events, too!
