A New Digital Address for Thetford Academy
July 21, 2026
Dear Thetford Academy Community,
If you’ve noticed a slight change in our email addresses recently, you’re not imagining things! We are officially transitioning our primary online home from thet.net to thetfordacademy.org.
A little fun local tech history: long before my time in the IT office—back in the heyday of Blitzmail servers across Dartmouth and the Upper Valley—thet.net was originally envisioned as a grand community networking hub for the area. While that broader hub vision eventually evolved into something simpler, the domain reliably served as the school’s digital front door for many years.
As our school’s digital needs expand, updating our web domain is a natural step forward. Here is why we’re making the switch:
- Clarity & Identity: Simply put, thetfordacademy.org immediately tells the world exactly who we are – students, families, visiting athletic teams, community partners, and college admissions officers, for example.
- Better Email Deliverability & Security: Modern anti-spam and phishing filters are notoriously strict. Moving to an official .org domain that matches our school name ensures our emails land safely in your inbox rather than getting flagged by aggressive filters.
- Unified Communications: Having our web address match our emails makes life much easier for new families and external organizations trying to reach us for the first time.
- Clear Separation from Town Services: As online systems for both the Town of Thetford and the Academy become more robust, distinct domains ensure school business and town business remain cleanly separated and easy to navigate.
So, what will happen?
If you send an email to an old @thet.net address, don’t worry—it will automatically forward to our new inboxes during this transition period. However, we encourage you to update your address book with our new @thetfordacademy.org contacts, and remove any that have @thet.net, when you get a chance!
As always, my door, email, and phone are always open for questions.
Warmly,
Marisa Cotilletta
