Head of School Weekly Email: Exploring the World Around Us

Dear TA Families,

May has been a busy month of excursions into the world around us to extend our learning and build community. A few of the recent trips include:

  • Sarah Hancock’s creative writing class headed to Northern Stage to see a performance of the acclaimed ‘Wonder! A Woman Keeps a Secret’.
  • Elizabeth Dowe’s advanced Spanish classes visited Dartmouth’s Baker Library to experience the world famous Orozco mural series, ‘The Epic of American Civilization’.
  • Scott Ellis’s environmental studies and outdoor education class has taken their learning on the road a lot this spring, including tours of Union Village Dam and Wilder Dam as part of a fluvial dynamics unit.
  • The Class of 2026 traveled to Boston on Thursday for their senior trip, with itinerary highlights including Quincy Market, the New England Aquarium, and Fenway Park for a Sox-Braves game.
  • The Class of 2031 enjoyed a class outing to Treasure Island on Lake Fairlee Friday afternoon.
  • There are a few more trips planned this coming week – for high school students in physics, marine biology, and timber framing – and then we will hunker down on campus for the final days of the year!

Finals Week
Please note the special schedule for the last week of school, June 8-12, and reach out to the front office or your student’s advisor with any questions. We will communicate directly with families about required student participation for ‘callbacks’ on Thursday, June 11.

Immigration Culture Fair
While our recent field trips had us exploring regional sites, from Hanover, NH to White River Junction, VT, and further south to Boston, MA, the 7th graders traveled to countries around the world through research and brought that learning to life with their Immigration Culture Fair on Friday. Each of the interactive stations featured music, maps, homemade dishes, clothing, and cultural artifacts, with highlights about how immigrants from these many countries have impacted U.S. culture and history.

Teams on the Road
It’s a big travel weekend for our athletes as the spring season pulls into the final lap. Best of luck to the varsity track & field teams competing in Essex, VT today and the softball and baseball teams traveling to Newport, VT. The JV baseball team is also on the road today, and tomorrow our middle school track & field team heads to UVM for state competition. Stay dry, do well, have fun!

Community Events on Sunday 5/31
Campus will be a hub of family-friendly activity on Sunday – and the community is invited! In the morning, the local nonprofit Finding Our Stride will hold their annual Color Dash run/walk event at TA at 10:00am. And in the afternoon, the one act drama class is hosting a free performance of the Rainbow Fish Musical at 1:00pm – perfect for the younger siblings, neighbors, and friends in our TA community!

Thank you,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
