Champions! Panthers Win Third VPA Div. III Soccer Title

On Saturday, November 1, TA’s Varsity Girls soccer team headed to the Maxfield Sports Complex for their championship game to take on No. 2 Vergennes. The Commodores were a familiar foe and a formidable one–the Panthers played hard to win last year’s title game, 2-1, against the same team.

Knowing their opponent well, the Panthers were prepared and quickly took control of the game. The Valley News reported that “TA fans seemed to sigh a collective sigh of relief after [Grace] Davis’ corner kick with 21:57 remaining in the first half. The right-side serve connected with Madi Powers, who assisted Namya Benjamin in front of the net.”

This first goal was followed by two more (Lily MacVeagh and Grace Davis) in the first half, solidifying the Panthers’ lead. The Commodores answered back with the first goal of the second half and a strong defense from goalie Kate Gosliga. The next three, though, were TA’s–Sophie Williams, Casey MacVeagh, Kathy Darrah. And the Panthers’ strong defense, including five saves from goalie Emma Berard, kept the Commodores out of the net for the rest of the game.

When the clock ran out, the scoreboard read 6-1 and the Panthers’ had clinched the title for the third year in a row. The TA crowd erupted with “Panther Pride” for its team.
