Founders’ Day Traditions, Adapted

With more than 200 years of school history, TA likes its traditions. Founders’ Day, celebrated by generations of TA students, honors the founding members of Thetford Academy who opened the school in 1819.

2021 marked the 78th consecutive year that TA has celebrated its birthday this way.  Though it looked a little different in the era of COVID (the opening ceremony went virtual, for example), students still competed by grade level for Founders’ Day bragging rights. There were sack races, snowshoe races, obstacle courses, and trivia contests.

The theme this year, aptly, was “Bingeable TV Shows” and grades took on  “The Office,” “Friends,” “Survivor,” “Parks and Rec,” “Stranger Things,” and the “Mandalorian.” Within these themes, students created skits, banners, centerpieces, ice sculptures, and murals. Parading and performing in the gym was out this year, but the judges toured the school to pick the winners in every category.

Check out some of the students’ entries, see who won, and enjoy the creativity!
