Season Ends for Panther Basketball

This season has been quite a ride for our Panthers. Last night’s playoff game v. the Vergennes Commodores ended in defeat for the varsity boys, officially closing the 2021-2022 season for TA. After graduating some of TA’s powerhouse players last year, this season’s developing team worked incredibly hard both on and off the court; it’s clear that these Panthers will be a team to watch out for in the coming years. The boys will graduate four senior players: Ethan Marshia, Mack Briglin, Alex Kim, and Logan Protzman.
The girls’ varsity team entered playoff competition over February break. Starting on Wednesday 2/23 with a playdown game v. Leland and Gray, the Panthers showed their strength with a decisive 53-17 win and moved on to the quarterfinal round. On Saturday 2/26, the team played an eventful game against undefeated Williamstown. The Valley News reported, “The Panthers gave the undefeated and second-ranked Blue Devils all they could handle in a VPA D-III quarterfinal contest.” It was a back and forth game all afternoon, but ultimately a 3-pointer from Williamstown in the fourth quarter tipped the game and the Panther’s fell 39-36.
Coach Eric Ward shared his pride for the team with the Valley News reporter: “This team has meant so much to me, being my beacon of hope. Knowing they were there made this season so special. They were with me throughout as I battled cancer and when my mother died during the season. They might not always be perfect on the floor but are the best team to be with during obstacles we encounter.” The girls graduate seniors Maddie Hatch and Macey Smith.
