Thetford Academy’s indoor track team had an outstanding day at the state championship meet at UVM on Saturday, February 4th. Competing in the D-II classification against 18 other schools (almost all of which are much larger), the Panther girls rolled to a second-place finish and the boys finished third.
The girls 4 x 800 relay team, Ava Hayden ’25, Ceci Luce ’24, Sora Bolles ’26 and Abby Egner ’23, won the D-II title, and punched a ticket to the New England championships at the same time. Senior Jada Rich scored points in all four of the events in which she competed, winning the high jump, finishing third in the long jump and fourth in the shot put, and was part of the girls 4 x 400 relay team which finished fourth.
Ava Hayden finished 2nd in the 3000 with a new personal record that places her second on the school record board, and earned her a spot at the New England meet. Sora Bolles also earned points with her fifth-place finish in the 600, and Abby Egner earned a podium spot with a fourth-place finish in the 1000.
On the boys’ side, Uly Junker-Boyce ’25 finished second in the long jump and earned an invitation to New Englands, while Evan Rich ’25 set a new P.R. in the triple jump, earning him a third-place finish and placing him second on the school record board.
Junior Ben Mattern won the 3000, and finished second in the 1500, while Finn Linehan ’23 earned a spot on the podium with a personal best 34′ 7″ triple jump. All three of the boys relay teams scored points: the 4 x 800 team (Ben Mattern, Wyatt Poletta ’26, Daniel Mann ’26 and Henry Trage ’26) finished fourth, the 4 x 400 team (Mattern, Mann, Henry Trage and Luca Trage ’23) finished fifth, and the 4 x 200 team (Junker-Boyce, Linehan, and the two Trage brothers) finished sixth.
