Track and Field Teams Shine at States; Boys Take Title, Girls Earn 2nd
June 07, 2023
The Panthers continued their track and field winning streak last Thursday at the Division III State Championship meet. The boys won the event, taking home the state title for the fourth straight year, and the girls earned second behind White River Valley. Since 2018, the girls have placed first or second every year. Notably, coach Emily Silver has now coached 14 state championship track and field teams (11 boys and 3 girls).
Despite the intense heat, the Panthers put together strong team performances and seven TA athletes (Madelyn Durkee, Charlize Brown, Maya Dixon, Ava Hayden, Finn Linehan, Uly Junker-Boyce, and Evan Rich) qualified to compete at the New England Championships in Bangor, Maine on June 10th. Eight of TA’s athletes will also take part in the Vermont Decathlon Championship at Burlington High School on June 19th.
“One of the fun challenges of coaching track and field is working with athletes to determine which events suit them best and where they can help the team the most,” said coach Joel Breakstone, “At the state meet, we got to see that work pay off.”
