Eloise Silver Van Meter advances to the Poetry Out Loud State Championships

At the Vermont Semifinal Poetry Out Loud contest, held at Barre Opera House on March 7th, Eloise Silver Van Meter advanced to the State Championships, along with nine other students. Thirty-one school winners recited two poems each. Eloise recited Lani O’Hanlon’s “Back Up Quick They’re Hippies” and Brenda Cárdenas’s “Zacuanpapalotls” (which means “Butterflies” in ancient Aztec). Eloise is now the third TA student to move on to the championships in the ten years that TA has been participating in the Poetry Out Loud program. Maddison Wilhite advanced in 2013, and in 2016 Izzy Kotlowitz earned a spot.

The championships take place March 18th at Vermont PBS studios in Colchester.
