First Day of School in the Books
August 27, 2019
Thetford Academy launched the new school year with an all-school assembly in the Vaughan Alumni Gymnasium. Head of School Carrie Brennan (Ms. Brennan, to students) introduced herself for the first time to the full student body, welcoming students to the year with a reflection on the school’s mission and values, and the meaning and importance of community.
Ms. Brennan encouraged students to think about what it means to lead, acknowledging that most leadership opportunities require a bit of risk-taking. Every assembly this year, she said, will be an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff alike to show leadership by taking a risk, by getting up to share individual talents, passions, and interests with the TA community.
To demonstrate, Thetford Outdoor Program coordinator Scott Ellis closed assembly with a demonstration of diabolo, a form of juggling. With that, and to the sound of TA’s talented faculty musicians, Ms. Brennan dismissed students into their grade-level advisory groups–and into the 2019-2020 school year.
