Dartmouth’s Dr. Yolanda Sanchez Visits Biology Classes

Dr. Yolanda (“Yoli”) Sanchez, Associate Professor of Molecular and Systems Biology from the Geisel School Of Medicine and Norris Cotton Cancer Center, visited Mr. Engler’s Biology and Advanced Biology classes this week.

Dr. Sanchez’ work is focused on research to identify drugs, and drug targets, for the treatment of cancer. Dr. Sanchez’s visit gave students the opportunity to see the real-world application of the biological sciences and the coursework they are studying today.

After the presentation, Biology students discussed the interaction of genetic and environmental factors involved in the breakdown of the cell cycle. Advanced Biology students, who have been working on a lab related to DNA gene expression and regulation, engaged in an animated discussion with Dr. Sanchez on her work in the area of tumor growth inhibition.
