Teaching and Learning Cafes Bring Faculty Together

On the first Tuesday of every month, TA faculty are invited to join the “Teaching and Learning Cafe,” hosted by school counselor and teaching and learning coordinator, Rebecca Walter. The informal event allows teachers from various backgrounds to share their perspectives and experiences–while gaining new ideas about strategies they may implement in their own practice.

This fall, teachers have explored the topics of thoughtful assessment, inquiry learning, and giving group tests. They have discussed the recommendations from TA’s Antiracism Task Force and antiracism in the classroom. “Covid required teachers to find new ways to engage learners,” Rebecca shared, “The Teaching and Learning Cafes have been a great opportunity to share out ideas, and to discuss how to best reach our students and meet their diverse needs.”

These in-person connections with colleagues are an important way for TA’s faculty to learn from one another, build skills, and enjoy time together outside the daily routine. The coffee, pastries, and delicious breakfast sandwiches provided by Food Service Manager Dawn Phelps are, of course, a welcome addition.
