A TOP Summer is Underway at TA
July 06, 2022
Though the academic year is over, TA’s Thetford Outdoor Program (TOP) continues its work “to ignite academic curiosity and foster environmental stewardship through outdoor exploration, recreation, and project-based, experiential learning” with a full slate of summer wilderness leadership opportunities.
Starting in June, students have participated in TOP’s annual summer trail crew, working on maintenance and expansion of TA’s trail system, traveled on backpacking and rock-climbing trips, and paddled and camped on the Connecticut River. New this year, the TOP Summer program included a successful “GLOW” backpacking and canoeing trip (specifically for girls, ladies, or whoever) led by outdoor educators Ehrin Lingeman and Leah Boch. And there’s still more to come!
Coming up, outdoor educator Scott Ellis will lead the program’s first international wilderness experience, an advanced canoe trip in Quebec’s La Verendrye National Park. In August, middle school students (both current and incoming) will join school garden coordinator Ehrin Lingeman for a week-long Garden Camp working and learning in TA’s school garden and at local organic farms.
