SARJ Film Series Continues with “My Name is Pauli Murray” on March 10

Thetford Academy’s Student Alliance for Racial Justice (SARJ) will host a free screening of the movie “My Name is Pauli Murray” on March 10th at 7 p.m. in TA’s Martha Jane Rich Theater, with discussion to follow.

The film is a look at the life and ideas of Pauli Murray, a non-binary Black lawyer, activist and poet who influenced both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Thurgood Marshall. “Overlooked by history, Pauli Murray was a legal trailblazer whose ideas influenced RBG’s fight for gender equality and Thurgood Marshall’s civil rights arguments. This is a portrait of their impact as a non-binary Black luminary: lawyer, activist, poet, and priest who transformed our world.” (IMBd)

In addition to its monthly film series, SARJ is encouraging student and community participation in Vermont’s “Race Against Racism” on May 7, 2023. The event is a youth-organized 5K run/walk and rally at Vermont’s Statehouse. Proceeds from the race will benefit nonprofit organizations Building Fearless Futures and the VT Releaf Collective.
