Extra! Extra! Read the Latest Edition of the Thetford Academy Times from TA’s Journalism Club
March 25, 2025

The Thetford Academy Times, known affectionately by students as “TAT,” is Thetford Academy’s school newspaper, written and produced by entirely by students. Though many high quality versions of a TA newspaper have been produced in the school’s history, when the Thetford Academy Times launched in 2023, it had been several years since a paper had been published on campus.
Student journalists in TAT were determined to bring back this important vehicle for student voice and expression, and have now produced four editions of TAT – one each semester that the club has been active. In the future, TA’s current staff is hopeful that the framework they created will be carried on – and expanded upon – by future student journalists.
This year’s winter edition’s feature story is editor Willow Slayton’s conversation with English teacher Kristen Downey about TA’s approach to proficiency-based learning. Willow also tells us about a TA rock-climbing trip in the Adirondacks gone awry due to flooding, and Natalie Lewis ’25 shares a first installment of her short story, “Unaccompanied Minors.”
The issue is rounded out with some humor, as Aiden Otterman ’27 undertakes a satirical “investigation” into Thetford Academy’s cross country team. Hugo Billiau ’25 covers his work in the TA drama department and in the local theater community, and is also the lead designer and games editor for the paper (give his crossword a try!).
