Head of School Weekly Email: Service Learning & the Value of Labor

Dear TA Families,

Thetford Academy students fanned out into the community and around campus today, rolling up their sleeves and working on projects, as part of our annual ODW Service Day. Operation Day’s Work is an international community service program that encourages young people to help raise funds for other young people around the globe. Our students contributed their labor today and the funds raised by our many community ’employers’ will go to support the Alpha Drop-In Teen Center in Dula, Zimbabwe. Kudos to the ODW club for all of their coordination efforts with the many moving parts of the day – and thank to all of the students who worked in service to others today.

Two other recent opportunities for students to contribute labor in service to their community: 1. The whole school’s participation in Green Up Day last Friday; and 2. The timber frame students’ efforts this semester to design, build, and raise a beautiful new wash-pack station for the school garden!

High School Course Registration for 2025-26
Students are in the process of registering for classes for next school year. Please check in at home to talk about class options, review the course registration documents together, and support your student in their planning for next year and their high school experience. Students in grades 9-11 have received everything they need via email and the Counseling Department page provides links to the course catalog and other resources. Students in grade 8 (‘rising 9th graders’) will have a session during advisory on Tuesday, May 13 – and families are invited to an evening session on May 14 (and have already received a calendar invitation with the meeting link).

Teacher Appreciation Week: Our Thanks to You!
We were wowed by the abundance of good food, beautiful flowers, and sweet notes of gratitude this week. Thank you to all of the family members (and students, too) who shared your time, labor, and love with us. We heartily appreciate the appreciation!

Wishing all the busy moms, grandmoms, aunts, and awesome women in our children’s lives a wonderful Mother’s Day this weekend! 🌷
