Head of School Weekly Email: Making Headlines
December 12, 2025
Dear TA Families,
We like to celebrate when our students are recognized for outstanding achievements and leadership. A handful of Thetford Academy high schoolers made headlines recently – and many students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance during the first quarter of the school year.
Students Making Headlines
→ Ollie Emery ’27 is heading to the National Junior Olympic Championships in Indiana and his team was profiled recently in the Valley News. Best of luck to Ollie and his teammates this weekend!
→ Marin Kidd ’28 had a recent entry to the Young Writers Project spotlighted on the YWP homepage today. Marin’s writing is an editorial-style opinion piece singing the praises of Australia’s bold move to limit social media access for teens under 16. Congrats to Marin for taking a public stand, even though it might be an unpopular one with many peers. Check out the Young Writers Project website.
→ Daniel Mann ’26 has been selected as one of two delegates to represent Vermont at the US Senate Youth Program in March 2026. The Vermont Principals Association released the news earlier today. This is a big honor for Daniel and for Thetford Academy!
→ Aiden Otterman ’27 was featured in the Journal Opinion for his role as Chair of the Vermont State Youth Council, an impressive responsibility and statewide leadership position. The JO online link provides a short summary of the article, but hopefully many JO readers out there have seen the full story:
Students Earning Q1 Honors
Congratulations to everyone who achieved honors or high honors status with their 1st quarter report cards. Speaking of making it into the news, the Thetford Academy honors and high honors lists were published in the Journal Opinion in November. Students were also recognized with certificates at assembly this week.
Students Hosting Events
Next week Student Council is sponsoring a fun holiday spirit week featuring the following daily themes: Merry Monday PJ Day, Tinsel Tuesday, Wacky Sock Wednesday, Jersday Thursday, Festive Friday!
Tonight the Classes of 2030 and 2026 are each hosting a holiday dance – one for the middle school (in the annex) and one for the high school (in the gym), 7-9pm. Have fun!
Thanks so much,
Carrie Brennan, Head of School
