Head of School Weekly Email: Back-to-School Season is Here!

Dear TA Families,

Greetings and welcome (almost) to the 2026-27 school year!

Weekly Head of School Email

This is the first of my regular weekly messages that I will send to our school community throughout the year, usually on Friday afternoons. The primary audience for my weekly email is parents, guardians and caregivers – but I also include students and employees, to help keep us all connected and ‘on the same page’. One of my big priorities as head of school is to foster strong communication and collaboration between families and our school to best support student learning and engagement. (By the way, this is the Head of School page on our website and all of my messages get posted there as well.)

Invitations for Sunday, August 23: Community Potluck & More

Join us for a potluck picnic for the school community at 5pm on Sunday evening, rain or shine. Potluck instructions, organized by family last name: A-H bring a dessert, I-P bring a main dish, and Q-Z bring a salad or side. Also: New students and their families are invited to come early between 4-5pm to acclimate to campus, walk through their daily schedule, check out a locker, and visit with school counselors and administrators, who are hosting the event. More details here.

First Day(s!) of School – August 25 & 26

Note that there are TWO first days of school. Tuesday, 8/25 is a special half-day dedicated to 7th and 9th graders. The day will run from 8:10am to 12:10pm (same as all of our half days throughout the year) and serve as an orientation for all of our incoming middle schoolers and incoming high schoolers. Our first official school day with all grades on campus for a full day schedule is Wednesday 8/26. Bus routes will be running and meals served on both 8/25 and 8/26.

Save the Date: Back to School Night

Looking ahead a few weeks … We welcome parents and caregivers to campus on Thursday, September 10, 5:45-7:30pm for our annual Back to School Night. This will be an opportunity to walk through your student’s schedule to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and learn more about the curriculum.

School Mailings & Communications

Lastly, please let us know if you are having issues receiving school communications. All households should have received both a postcard invite and a back-to-school mailing via USPS earlier this month. Additionally, we want to make sure you are getting our emails. Connect with Office Administrator Gloria Konicki ([email protected]) if you have contact updates to share. Also, if you have questions about school events or logistics, the calendar page and the TA website in general are designed to be helpful resources for families.

Featured photos this week: We’ve had a busy week with all of the adults back on campus for new teacher orientation, workshops, and inservice days. Lots of serious work happening as well as some silly fun too. (Students: Ask us about pool noodle human tic-tac-toe some time!)

Thanks – and have a great weekend!

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
