Congratulations to Jacob Phelps, Thetford Academy’s recipient of the University of Vermont’s Green and Gold Scholars Award for the Class of 2027.
The highly competitive Green and Gold scholarship, launched by UVM in 2001, is awarded to the most academically talented rising high school senior in every eligible Vermont secondary school. The scholarship provides full in-state tuition to the University of Vermont for four years and includes an invitation to enroll in the University’s prestigious Patrick Leahy Honors College.
While at TA, Jacob pursued and excelled in a rigorous course of study, including honors courses and dual enrollment college classes. He is an active and engaged part of the school community, a member of the STEM club and a three-season varsity athlete.
Throughout his high school career, Jacob has played varsity basketball and track and field at Thetford Academy and varsity football at Hartford High School. At Hartford, he was recognized as a scholar athlete at this year’s Rutland Rivalry Game and as a first team all-state linebacker as a junior.
A deep desire to help others has inspired Jacob’s interest in medicine. He has attended the Governor’s Institute of Vermont’s Health and Medicine program, and plans to pursue a career in nursing in college.
