VT Reptile Educator Visits Biology Class

The culminating unit in Thetford Academy’s Biology course involves studying the classification, and diversity, of life. A hands-on, up-close meet and greet with some of that diversity was a perfect way to kick off TA’s Field Day activities and the Memorial Day weekend.

TA alumna Christina Swaan (Hazelton) ’03, a licensed Vermont Reptile Educator, visited Mr. Engler’s Biology class with her collection of reptiles and other creatures. The star of Christina’s presentation was Levi, Christina’s 10-foot long albino Burmese Python (and the only critter students were not allowed to handle).

Students curiosity and courage was on full display as they examined an adolescent African bullfrog, an Argentinian tegu, an adult iguana, a Brazilian rainbow boa, a 40-pound Sulcata tortoise named Socrates, a tarantula (very docile), and other wonderful creatures.

Check out some photos from Christina’s visit below!
