Head of School Weekly Email: Semester Launch, New Date for Founders’ Day & More

Dear TA Families,

Second semester started on Tuesday, with a whole new slate of classes for high schoolers and new arts/tech electives for the middle schoolers. Check in at home to see what students’ experiences have been thus far and learn about their new courses, new teachers, and new routines at school. Look for report cards for 1st semester next Wednesday; they will be distributed to students in advisory to bring home.

Staying connected when absent: The document we shared earlier in the year TA Technology & Learning Expectations continues to be an important resource for all of us – students, families, and educators – to help students stay connected when absent. The big tips are to use Google Classroom to access course material and assignments and to communicate with teachers.

Founders’ Day update: We are shifting the date for Founders’ Day from February 4 to March 11. This change will also impact the half-day Community Day for March, which will move from March 2 to March 9. We have updated the online school calendar; please make a note on your print version of the school calendar if you rely on those at home.

Winter snow sports updates: Congratulations to our alpine ski team, who just had another race at Bromley Mountain on Thursday. They are training daily at Storrs Hill with their largest roster ever of middle school and high school athletes. We’ve got enough snow on the TA trails now for the cross-country ski club to be active. All students are welcome – no experience or equipment necessary. The club skis on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3pm until approx 4:15 (dusk).

Weekly assembly: Due to some technical issues, we weren’t able to view our recorded assembly in advisory on Wednesday. Here is the link for those who want to view it over the weekend: link to assembly video. The assembly also included a prompt for advisories to watch an excerpt of Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech: https://youtu.be/I47Y6VHc3Ms?t=716.

Stay warm. Be well. Have a good weekend.
