Head of School Weekly Email: Lots to Celebrate – and More to Come!

Dear TA Families,

Earlier this week the owners of the venue where the seniors had their prom sent me a nice note of thanks. While it was a surprise to receive – and a delight to read – the sentiments they expressed had a familiar echo. It’s amazing how often I hear this kind of feedback, from visitors to campus as well as those encountering our students out in the world.

‘Your students were an absolute joy. So well behaved, kind, and respectful. It was clear how well they all got along and the positive energy they brought with them was contagious. Several of them came to us after the event to thank us for hosting and to offer help with cleanup – their level of maturity and thoughtfulness was truly impressive!’

We can all take credit and be proud of our positive school community and the impact it has on others. Thank you, parents and families! Thank you, teachers and staff! And, thank you, students!

There is so much activity and momentum during this final stretch of the school year. I can’t capture it all, but here are a few shout outs for recent accomplishments:

  • Yearbook Crew! Congratulations to the fall and spring yearbook classes (and their teacher Kate Owen) for an impressive and fun publication capturing the 2024-25 school year at Thetford Academy. If you didn’t pre-order one, there are still some available to purchase. See Kate in the library; cost is $40, cash or check to TA. All seniors receive one for free, courtesy of Project Senior fundraising.
  • English 10 Students! Congratulations to Ms. Silver’s English 10 classes for the moving presentation of their anthology projects on Friday. Students were poised and professional at the podium, while sharing very personal selections to a full audience of students, teachers, and family members.
  • Softball Pitcher McKayla Stanley! Congratulations to McKayla for reaching the milestone of 300 career strikeouts this week. The #1 panther pitcher since her 8th grade year, McKayla has been a key player in the program’s rebuilding and dominance in recent years. Check out this awesome feature of McKayla in the Valley News sports section on May 29.
  • Psychology Class! A shout out to the students in Ms. Pond’s psychology class for spreading joy around campus as part of their action-oriented final research projects. The most visible this week was the ‘Bee Kind’ group engaging the school community in a note-writing campaign to share gratitude and kindness. Keep an eye out around campus for more projects designed to inspire and uplift.
  • Middle School Track Athletes! Congratulations to our middle school track team, represented by five qualifying athletes at the State Meet at UVM yesterday. Peter Horan finished 10th in the 1500 meter and 19th in the 800. Danny Lloyd soared to 5’2” in the high jump to achieve 2nd place. Seeley Quenneville finished 5th in the 400 meter and 14th in the 200. Emmeline Saint-Fleur came in 21st in the 1500 meter. Asa Williams was 4th in the 110 meter hurdles. Coach Anne Sosin was impressed with the group’s ‘spectacular day!’ competing at a statewide level.
