Poetry Slam! Students Present Original Work at TA

On Friday, Sept. 29, dozens of students, teachers, and community members gathered in the Martha Jane Rich Theater to watch 12 TA students and two faculty members present their original poems in a Poetry Slam.
Performances were judged by five student judges who were picked randomly by Ms. Silver after applying for the position. The selection of judges was based on qualifications listed by the applicant, and the more preposterous the qualifications, the better. The focus of the event was not on the scores or the winner, but on the students, their works, and their presentations. The school’s house band, led by instrumental music teacher Greg Mellinger, opened and closed the event.
Poetic performances ranged from short to long, silly to serious, personal to general. Student performers were Natalie Smith ’19, Eli Kaliski ’19, Gabe Gaetz ’19, Gabriel Geller ’19, Allen Wang ’18, Katy Howard ’19, Jordan Smith ’20, Ian Spelman ’19, Caitlyn Town ’18, Alden Nichols ’19, Jade Elias ’19, and Tait Linehan ’19. This fall’s winner was Jordan Smith ’20, with runner-up Eli Kaliski ’19. Congratulations to all for a great event.
