Thetford Academy’s 2018-19 theme comes from a quote attributed to both Jesse Jackson and Zig Ziglar: “It's not your aptitude but your attitude that will determine your altitude.” As I mentioned in my remarks to the TA student body on opening day (Aug. 28), regardless of whether Ziglar or Jackson said it first, or whether someone else came up with it originally, this lighthearted quote has an uplifting, motivational message that reminds us of how important it is that we develop an attitude of celebrating others rather than boasting about ourselves and our abilities.  When we do so, our whole community soars! This is...

Thetford Academy’s 200th session began on Tuesday, Aug. 28.  This year, our  301 students—including 67 new to the school—come from 13 Upper Valley towns (Brownsville, Chelsea, Corinth, Hanover, Hartland, Lyme, Newbury, Orange, Sharon, Strafford, Thetford, Topsham, and Washington) and two countries (China and South Korea). Opening day began with an all-school assembly during which the theme and goal for the year were revealed: “It's not your aptitude but your attitude that will determine your altitude.” This quote is attributed to both Jesse Jackson and Zig Ziglar.  For more on the theme and the opening assembly, click on Head of School William Bugg's opening assembly remarks. This year, the...
