Wallace "Wally" Roberts is an American Civil Rights Activist who considers some of his most important civil rights work to be his time as the Freedom School Coordinator for Freedom Summer in Shaw, Mississippi in 1968. The goals of the Freedom Schools were to educate white students about black history and the current civil rights movement, particularly in the South, and to recruit students to the Freedom Movement. TA Science teacher Gary Engler is one of 18 teachers from across the country selected to attend the Glacier Institute teacher workshop "Discovering Glacier through Science and Culture" at Montana's Glacier National Park. The five-day science and field-based workshop is an opportunity for teachers to learn about resource topics at Glacier National Park and to design hands-on service learning projects for their students. Participants will look at resource issues through both western science and native perspectives.
