The leaves have all fallen and snow is right around the corner. Cross country skiing is a great way to get outside in the winter, have fun, and get some excellent exercise. Not to mention, we have an amazing trail right in our back yard and lots of other great trails in the immediate area. This will be a noncompetitive group that will focus on skiing technique, outdoor exploration, and fitness. The Thetford Outdoor Program (TOP) is hosting a hike to Mt. Cardigan on Saturday, Nov. 18. The group will meet at 10 a.m. at the circle driveway on the TA campus.  Transportation to and from Mt. Cardigan will be provided, via the school's new TOP bus, and the group will return to school by 3 p.m. Students should be prepared to be outside all day. Wear non-cotton clothing and good hiking shoes. Bring extra warm layers, a backpack, water, and a lunch. Food and supplies can be provided upon request for a student who does not have them. The fourth annual Thetford Academy 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament is on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. We hope you can join us for another exciting tournament to help kick off the basketball season in the Upper Valley. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls, with brackets for 5th/6th graders, 7th/8th graders and High School.  There is a two game guarantee. Up to five players may be on a team and the cost is $50 per team, with proceeds to benefit the Thetford Academy Athletic Fund. Cedar Circle Farm & Education Center announces their second session of a culinary program for middle schoolers ages 11-14. The six-week session takes a well-rounded approach to teaching older children culinary skills that will develop and expand their love of cooking. The program meets Mondays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. from Nov. 6 to Dec. 11, and is open to any kids ages 11-14 Participants will learn basics in kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, nutrition, cooking and baking techniques, and presentation, through weekly themed classes. Jennifer Gernhard's Cooking for Health class is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Thetford Food Shelf. The class recently learned that the Thetford Food Bank is decreasing the frequency their patrons can visit.  Instead of every week, they will only be able to visit every other week.  This is very concerning for the patrons of the food shelf because of the significant impacts it can have on their daily lives.  So, the Cooking for Health class decided to help by organizing a food drive!
