The 27th annual Woods Trail Run took place on Saturday, Oct. 7.  Over 2,000 students from 100 schools across New England competed in 12 separate cross country races, making for an exciting day start to finish. Despite an unexpected stretch of rain, thousands of spectators came out to cheer on the runners, while hundreds of student, parent, and community volunteers kept the day moving along smoothly. Beginning this month, the Student Council will be coordinating TA's Wednesday assembly program.  Their goal is to broaden student participation and recognition through a student-centered model. Bringing our community together once a week is an important opportunity for students to learn about each other from each other and participate in meaningful dialogue with each other. Students will be doing the lion's share of the presenting, and Student Council members will be working hard to help make that happen, both by running each assembly, as well as by encouraging their classmates to participate in assembly. In the last week of September, the Environmental Studies and Outdoor Education class created a 20-foot diameter yurt platform. Building the platform was a class project that pushed the students to learn new skills, work as a team, and take part in building their future outdoor classroom. The platform is located in Thetford Hill State Forest in the Upper Picnic area on an existing slate foundation that once housed a pavilion. This year, the Thetford Academy yearbook, known as Tacadian, will be created through a local company called Picaboo Yearbooks, based out of Hanover, NH. Students have the option of purchasing a hardcover yearbook or a softcover yearbook, as well as an digital e-book option for a small extra fee. The contents of the book will be the same for each version, but the price is impacted. Hardcover books will sell for $35, softcover books are $25, and the e-book can be added for an extra $5.
