Celebrating The Class of 2021: TA’s 202nd Commencement

On Friday, June 11, Thetford Academy celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2021 in the school’s 202nd commencement ceremony. Fifty-three TA seniors took the stage to mark the end of their high school career and the beginning of new endeavors as young adults. The event was held outdoors on TA’s softball field (a Covid-19 adjustment) and featured several student speakers who reflected both on their time at TA and the future ahead. (Read each students’ reflections at the link: Emma Colby, Kayla Busby, Emi Vaughan, Eloise Silver Van Meter, Cody Corcoran, Samara Spelman, and Dylan Moody A’ness).

After facing a challenging fifteen months of disruptions, cancellations, and isolation caused by Covid-19, this class emerged with humor and grace. They demonstrated perseverance, kindness, and strength. As Dylan Moody A’ness shared in his remarks, “I do think it speaks to our class’s character that we have made it through this insane year to be standing here today. I know it has been hard to find motivation when the world feels like it has stopped around you. But, even when we’re living in this crazy world we’ve still been able to do amazing things. We have state champions sitting here, award-winning poets, authors, hunters, chess players, actors, singers, and pretty much anything else you can think of.”

The Class of 2021 will go on to college and careers, to be of service, to travel the world. They will make an impact in the world beyond TA, as they have had an impact on our school community over their time here. Social Studies faculty speaker Betsy Pond put it well: “Yours is a class that marches to its own drum. You are individuals with strong convictions and you are certainly hard to miss. You are funny and hopeful, at times cynical but also with a fire that is unique to you. I hope you bring that wherever you go, it is your greatest strength. You are strong together but now is the time that you will all move apart.  I hope you keep each other in your hearts as you move through life and never forget that we here at TA loved you and will continue to do so.”

Congratulations, Thetford Academy Class of 2021. We are so proud of you.
