Intentionally building a strong and caring community has long been a TA tradition. Events like Mountain Day and Founders’ Day, school-wide assemblies, and community meals create important connections and provide a time and space for sharing experiences.

This year, TA is expanding on these foundational events with monthly “Community Day” programming designed to create strong, positive relationships that support students throughout and beyond their time at TA.

On Wednesday, September 1, we had our first Community Day event as part of our launch of the new school year. Students started the day in advisory with an activity about TA’s transferable skills, before rotating through a variety of outdoor, artistic, and team-building activities with their classmates.

For the Class of 2025, more than half of whom are new to Thetford Academy, Community Day was an important opportunity to get to know one another. Led by 9th grade advisors, the class gathered on the Barrett Outdoor campus to take advantage of the outdoor classroom and low ropes course for fun team-building activities.

Community Day builds on TA’s deep traditions of school-wide activities and is also inspired by the Covid experience of pod life last year and the lessons we learned about the value of creating more time during the school day for outdoor learning, physical activity, and informal time together.
