Head of School Weekly Email: 1st Quarter Final Stretch, College Rep Visits & Covid in Our Community

Dear TA Families,

Here are some important highlights for the week.

Last Day of Quarter 1 is Friday 10/22

We want to remind everyone that there is just one week left in the first quarter of the school year. If students have assessments they want to retake, additional drafts of writing assignments to revise, make-up work from recent absences to turn in, important projects or tests coming up in the next few days — now is the time to really focus, prep, and follow through on those deadlines. We encourage parents and students to use Web2School as a resource to track progress and assignments in each class: thetford.web2school.com

College Rep Visits

Fall is college recruitment season and TA is hosting college representatives throughout Quarter 1 and 2. This is especially relevant for our juniors and seniors, but might be of interest to younger high schoolers as well. Some of the upcoming visits include Quinnipiac University, Mt. Holyoke College, St. Francis Xavier University, and the University of Southern Maine. Connect with the Counseling Department Coordinator Lindsey Pierce for more details and to RSVP. All of the visits are posted on the school calendar: thetfordacademy.org/calendars.

Covid in Our Community

As most of you are probably aware, this past week has been a troubling one regarding Covid  in Vermont. Wednesday was the state’s highest daily case count of the pandemic, with 327 new cases. For pandemic dashboards, visit the New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/vermont-covid-cases.html and the VT Dept of Health https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/current-activity/case-dashboard

Message from the TA Health Office

Many of the recent Vermont cases are among previously healthy children and teens who are not vaccinated against Sars-Cov-2. The situation is very serious. The safest way to protect our young people – and entire community – is for everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. TA will host another Covid vaccine clinic on Wednesday, October 20 from 12-2pm. This is open to all community members, with an emphasis on TA students and families. People can receive their first or second shots at this clinic. For parents and students who want to learn more about the vaccine, this is an informative brief video that might be a useful resource. Contact the TA Health Office for Covid questions and for more information about the vaccine clinic: [email protected].

We thank everyone for their continued efforts to keep themselves and their loved ones healthy.

Take care,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
