Head of School Weekly Email: First Week!

Dear TA Families,

As we wrap up our first week of school, I want to share my gratitude to everyone for a smooth start to the year! The glorious weather was a helpful addition, too. Today’s email covers the gamut from the mundane to the worldly, so read on – and please reach out to the contacts listed below with any questions.

Let’s start with the basics to make sure everyone is finding the resources they need and able to navigate the new school year: food, transportation, and health.

  • Universal free meals continue in Vermont this year. Breakfast and lunch are served daily at TA. Menu information is on our website; look for the Panther Café page under ‘Student Life’. Contact person: Cafe Manager Dawn Phelps, [email protected].
  • Bus routes are posted on our Transportation page, also under the ‘Student Life’ section of the website. Contact person: Dean of Students Siobhan Lopez, [email protected].
  • Health Office updates go out every Thursday from School Nurse Ellen Gnaedinger. More resources are on the Health Office page and contact info is [email protected].

Next up, upcoming dates to note on your family calendars:

  • Labor Day, Monday 9/2 – School is closed.
  • School Picture Day, Friday 9/6 – Packets went home with students today.
  • Back-to-School Night, Thursday 9/12, 5:45-7:30pm – All parents invited to meet teachers and visit classrooms.
  • Half Day Schedule, Friday 9/13 – School will dismiss at 12:10pm.
  • Visit the calendar page for event updates and to subscribe to TA’s google calendar.

That was a lot of nitty-gritty details, so let’s get to the worldly item I promised at the top …

TA goes to Europe in April 2025! We are planning a school trip to Paris, Provence and Barcelona over spring break. We have 7 students signed up so far and need 14 to make the trip a reality. High school students who have taken at least 2 years of French or Spanish, or are currently enrolled in a language course, are eligible. To find out more, there is one more virtual informational meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5, 7-8pm, for parents who didn’t attend a session last spring.

At the start of the new school year and in recognition of Labor Day, a special thanks to all of the educators and support staff at TA – and throughout our community – for their incredible work!

Wishing everyone a good holiday weekend,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
