Two Thetford Academy Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

Two Thetford Academy students, Andre Whiteberg ’25 and Oliver Yukica ’24 (who graduated a year early and is attending Princeton University) were recently named National Merit Scholarship Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Association. This prestigious recognition of academic performance is shared by just 15,000 students across the country each year and approximately 30 students in Vermont.

To advance from Semifinalist to Finalist standing, students must submitting SAT scores that confirm their earlier PSAT/NMSQT performance, have an outstanding academic record, and be endorsed and recommended by a high school official. They must also submit an application that includes high school courses and grades, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and a self-descriptive essay.

The information that is collected about each Semifinalist is used later in the process to choose scholarship winners. All Finalists receive a Certificate of Merit in recognition of their outstanding performance in the competition. National Merit Scholarship recipients will be chosen from the Finalists and announced in the spring. Congratulations to Andre and Oliver on this exciting achievement!
