TA Promotes Awareness and Advocacy in Act 73 Redistricting Process

Earlier this year, Vermont’s legislature signed education transformation bill H.454 into law as Act 73. The bill aims to create efficiencies and promote cost-savings for Vermont’s education system through a variety of levers. The current focus of the transformational work ahead is being done by the state’s Redistricting Task Force, which is meeting intensively this fall under a December deadline.

The Thetford Academy Board of Trustees is playing a key advocacy role for Thetford Academy in this process and working to keep our school community informed and engaged. One of the recent steps they took was to submit a letter to the Redistricting Task Force, and to share it in the Task Force’s public comment session on Sept. 10, 2025.

As families, alumni, and community members, there are a few upcoming opportunities to learn more and to get involved in this process. Specifically, there are two community forums tonight, one hosted by the Orange East Supervisory Union (OESU) and one by the White River Valley Supervisory Union (WRVSU). In addition, OESU has put out a parent and community survey to gather input. See below for details:

  • OESU is hosting community forums this week – tonight 9/23 @ Oxbow, tomorrow 9/24 @ Waits River, and 9/30 @ TES. The forums allow for in person and online participation. Visit the OESU website for more details and meeting links.
  • WRVSU is hosting a community discussion tonight 9/23 with the two local Redistricting Task Force members, Rebecca Holcombe and Jay Badams, as part of the WRVSU Board meeting agenda.
  • Additionally, OESU is conducting a community input survey this month, geared toward families in their four districts (Waits River, Thetford, Bradford, and Newbury) – link to survey

Thetford Academy will continue to advocate for our students and families throughout this process and update our community as we learn more.
