Head of School Weekly Email: Final Stretch of 1st Semester

Dear TA Families,

Happy New Year from all of us at Thetford Academy!

Our first week back has been a whirlwind of academic activity as students dove back into their classes and engaged in final projects and assessments during these final days of the quarter and semester. Check in with your student at home to learn more about the exams they are studying for; the essays they are writing; the presentations, simulations, performances, and reflections they are doing; and the projects they are creating. This weekend should be a busy time for students as they prep to end their classes on a high note.

Overview of Final Exams & Projects Week, Jan. 12-16

  • Monday will be the last regular day of classes and a full day of school.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday we have special half-day exam schedules to allow for extended time in classes, with afternoons dedicated to student prep and teacher grading.
  • Thursday is set aside for exam make-ups and call backs for additional support as needed; students who have not been tapped to attend on Thursday are excused for the day.
  • Friday is a semester break day with no school in session.

For a detailed view of next week’s schedule, please reference this document: Final Exams & Projects Week.

Featured photos: Students in Melissa Friel’s biology and advanced biology classes took on dissection projects this week, including sea anemones, perch, and fetal pigs. Students in Chris Schmidt’s design tech classes got in some extra time in the workshop during office hours this week.

Best of luck to our winter track and field athletes whose quick season culminates in the State Meet tomorrow at UVM!

Thanks and have a good weekend,

Carrie Brennan, Head of School
